The idea

One day. One check. The whole of Europe.

On 3 June 2027, garages, car washes, fleets, companies, universities, municipalities and private drivers across Europe check tyre pressure — and explain why it matters. Driving on the right pressure is the cheapest way to make a tyre last longer, and a tyre that lasts longer is a tyre that does not become waste.

2 min

The check itself

Four tyres, one gauge, cold tyres, the value from the door sill or fuel cap. That is the whole action.

4 / 5

Scrapped with tread left

At one French sorting site, almost four out of five used tyres with at least 3 mm of tread remaining could not be reused. The tread was not the problem — the state of the casing was.

0.3 l

Fuel per 100 km

Under-inflated tyres roll harder. The ADAC puts the extra consumption at up to 0.3 litres per 100 kilometres — on every trip, all year.

Sources: REGOM, analysis of one site in France, June 2026 (59,349 used tyres with at least 3 mm tread, of which 12,738 were recovered). ADAC, “Der richtige Luftdruck beim Auto”. Figures describe those samples, not your vehicle.

AZuR The sender

Who is behind the day

European Tyre Pressure Day is an initiative of AZuR — the Alliance for Sustainable Tyre Recycling. AZuR is a European network of companies, research institutions and associations working along the whole tyre life cycle: use, retreading, material recovery and recycling.

The network's position is simple: the most sustainable tyre is the one that is used properly for as long as it is safe. Pressure is where that starts — before retreading, before recycling. That is why AZuR is putting one date on the European calendar.

1

One network, whole life cycle

AZuR brings together partners from tyre production, trade, retreading, collection and recycling — plus research and public bodies.

EU

Circular economy, in practice

Working groups develop practical answers: quality standards, retreading, devulcanisation, recovered material in new products.

A day anyone can carry

AZuR provides the date, the message and the material. What happens on the ground is yours to shape.

Who can take part

Everyone. Really everyone.

There is no membership, no fee and no minimum size. If you want tyres to be used for as long as they are safe, you belong on this map. One person with a pressure gauge in a company car park is a valid action.

How it works

Four steps to your own action

01

Pick your action

A free pressure check for customers, a check point in the staff car park, a campus stand, a fleet inspection round — anything that gets gauges onto tyres.

02

Put yourself on the map

Register in one minute. Your action appears on the European participation map and shows others in your region that something is happening.

03

Get the material

Order posters, banners, floor stickers, beach flags and flyers — or download the free digital kit. Non-commercial participants can apply to have costs covered.

04

Do it on 3 June — and show it

Run your check, count the tyres, post it with #loveyourtyre #pumpitup and send photos to AZuR for the European wrap-up.

Garage

Free pressure and tread check all day, with a printed record the customer takes home.

Car wash

Gauge and pump at the exit, one member of staff, a floor sticker pointing the way.

Company

Check point in the car park at shift change; offer it to employees' private cars too.

University

Campus stand plus a short lecture slot on tyres, rolling resistance and circular economy.

Municipality

Check the municipal fleet, publish the result, open the station to residents for an afternoon.

Individual

Check your own four tyres, then your neighbours'. Register it — the map counts every action.

Know-how

How to check a tyre properly

Pressure is the one thing on a tyre that anybody can get right without tools, training or an appointment. Here is the routine we would like to see repeated across Europe on 3 June — and the reasoning behind it.

01

Measure cold

Before driving, or after no more than two or three kilometres. A warm tyre reads up to 0.3 bar too high, so a warm reading makes an under-inflated tyre look fine.

02

Find your own target value

Door sill, fuel filler flap, glovebox lid or handbook. There are usually two figures: normal load and full load. The number on the tyre wall is a maximum, not a recommendation.

03

All four — and the spare

Use the same gauge for every wheel so the readings are comparable. The spare loses pressure too and is almost never checked until it is needed.

04

Inflate to the value, not below it

Carrying passengers or luggage? Use the full-load figure. Slightly above the recommendation is far less harmful than slightly below — but never go past the maximum marked on the tyre.

05

Look while you are down there

Tread depth (1.6 mm is the legal minimum in the EU, 3 mm is the sensible one), uneven wear across the width, cuts, bulges, embedded stones, cracked sidewalls and the DOT date code.

06

Put it in the calendar

A tyre loses roughly 0.1 bar a month on its own, more in hot weather. Once a month, before every long trip, and whenever the load changes.

Get this routine as a printable PDF

And when the tyre really is finished?

Then it is still not waste. A casing in good condition is retreaded: same tyre, new tread, a fraction of the raw material and energy of a new one. What cannot be retreaded is separated into rubber, steel and textile, or devulcanised back into material for new products.

Organising exactly these routes across Europe — quality standards, retreading, material recovery, devulcanisation — is the day job of the AZuR network behind this campaign.

For organisations

Carry the day with us

European Tyre Pressure Day is built to be shared. Associations, manufacturers, trade bodies, retailers, fleet operators and media houses across Europe are invited to support the date — with their reach, their network, their locations or by funding material for those who cannot pay for it.

Supporters appear on this site and in the campaign material, receive the toolkit ahead of publication, and can shape the national roll-out in their own market.

01

Lend your reach

Announce the date to your members, customers or readers in your own language and channels.

02

Open your locations

Every branch, depot or filling station that offers a check on 3 June is one more pin on the map.

03

Fund the sponsoring package

Cover print material for schools, universities and non-profit participants who want in but cannot pay.

Good to know

Questions we get asked

Does taking part cost anything?

Participation is free. You only pay for printed material you order — and non-commercial participants can apply to have that covered by the sponsoring package.

Do I need to be an AZuR member?

No. The day is open to anyone in Europe who supports the idea, member or not, company or private person.

What about commercial vehicles?

They are very much included. The day covers every vehicle that runs on tyres — cars, vans, trucks, trailers, buses, agricultural machines, bicycles. On commercial vehicles the effect is largest: a truck casing that stays intact can be retreaded several times, and correct pressure is what protects it.

What if my action is tiny?

Small is fine. Four tyres checked in a car park is a registered action. The point of the map is breadth, not size.

Can I run my action on a different date?

3 June 2027 is the shared date that gives the campaign its visibility. If your operation cannot manage that day, register anyway and note your date in the description.

I do not run a garage — can I still take part?

Yes. Most of the map will be ordinary participants: a company checking the staff car park, a school, a club, a family in their own driveway. You register exactly the same way.

What equipment do I need?

A pressure gauge is enough — a hand-held one costs a few euros. For larger actions a floor pump with a gauge makes the queue move faster. Every filling station has an inflator you can use.

How do I measure correctly?

Measure on cold tyres, take the target value from the door sill or the fuel filler flap, check all four wheels and the spare. The Know-how section above walks through the whole routine, and the printable checklist sums it up on one page.

In which languages is the material available?

This site and the campaign material are available in German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish and Dutch. The “We are taking part” notice comes in all seven.

Can I change or remove my entry later?

Yes, at any time. Send us a short message with the name of your entry and we will correct or delete it.

Who do I talk to if something is unclear?

Call the campaign hotline on +49 2154 8885213 or write to info@azur-netzwerk.de. A real person answers.

What happens with my registration data?

Name, type, town, country and description are shown on the public map. Your e-mail address is used by the AZuR team to contact you about the day and is not published. You can ask for your entry to be removed at any time.
